Parent and Adult Child Relationship Counseling
How does this look?
Recent studies indicate that more than 15% of American adults are estranged from a parent, citing issues such distrust, conflicting values, or fallout from a divorce or separation. In situations where abuse is not a factor, family therapy aims to bring adult family members to the table to learn ways to manage conflict, share perspectives, and move forward on common ground with a foundation based on trust, understanding, and mutual respect.
How can therapy help?
Topics we may explore include:
Patterns that have contributed to hurt
Navigating adoption related topics
Communication skill development
Unresolved grief or resentment
Developing understanding and acceptance
Repairing and strengthening your relationship
My goal is not to determine who is right or wrong, but to cultivate understanding of what happened, how all have been affected, and what the relationship can look like moving forward.
What is it like to work with me?
My approach is person-centered and collaborative, meaning I view you as the expert on your family’s needs. My goal is to create a space where everyone feels heard while helping identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My work is informed by my experience with adoption, personally and professionally, and with complex family relationships. Together we will work to identify your goals for therapy and work towards a relationship that feels honest and sustainable for everyone involved.
Fees/Insurance
Though I currently only offer self-pay services, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement, though this varies by plan (I encouraged you to check with your provider first).
I am in the process of credentialing with several insurance plans, so if you’d like to use insurance, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask about plans to accept it in the future.
How do I get started?
If you're wondering whether we're a good fit, I'd love to meet with you for a free consultation.
